Misile man of India
Abdul Kalam was elected president by a large majority in the 2002 presidential election. His term of office lasted from 25 July 2002 to 25 July 2007. He was succeeded by Pratibha Patil. Kalam served as a project leader in the team that developed India's first launch vehicle, the SLV-3. Then, in the early 1980s, he was director of Indian missile design projects at the Armed Forces Research Institute (DRDO) and, from 1992, as a scientific advisor to the Minister of Defence, being involved in the development of India's nuclear weapons. Kalam led the development of the Agni and Prithvi missiles.[2] Kalam dreamed of a prosperous India and urged young people to dream and realize their dreams. According to Kalami, important areas where India could develop were software engineering, computer products, aerospace, defense research, space technology, chemical research and food production. Kalam was a supporter of open source software.
